YBBP-225S is the 225S frame size (shaft height H = 225 mm) of the Shangli YBBP series of flameproof variable-frequency three-phase induction motors. It covers 18.5–37 kW in 4 / 8-pole versions with Ex marking Ex d I Mb / Ex d IIA T4 Gb / Ex d IIB T4 Gb / Ex d IIC T4 Gb, for operation on a VFD with constant torque at (3)5–50 Hz and constant power at 50–100 / 50–60 Hz, cooled by an independent axial-flow fan. The tables below list performance data and mounting dimensions for all 2 standard models on this frame. The catalogue writes the models as YBBP225S-4, YBBP225S-8.

Rated values at 380 V, 50 Hz. A constant-torque range of (3)5–50 Hz means 5–50 Hz as standard and down to 3 Hz on request; the constant-power range is the speed range above 50 Hz. Rated torque is as given in the catalogue. Final values are those in the routine test report.

The YBBP series is developed from the YB3 series; feet, shaft extension and flange dimensions follow flameproof motors of the same frame size (YB3 / YBX3). The YBBP has an independent axial-flow fan at the non-drive end, so overall length L and height are larger than a standard flameproof motor and are confirmed on the approval drawing.

Selection notes
- Below 50 Hz the motor runs at constant torque: rated torque is available from (3)5 to 50 Hz, suitable for conveyors, extruders, mixers and hoisting equipment.
- Above 50 Hz the motor runs at constant power: the range for this frame is 50–100 / 50–60 Hz and available torque falls as speed rises, suitable for high-speed fans and centrifuges.
- An independent axial-flow fan keeps cooling constant at low speed; the fan needs its own power supply, so allow for it in the electrical design.
- Choose the Ex marking for the site: Ex d I Mb for underground coal mines; Ex d IIA / IIB T4 Gb for IIA and IIB gases in petroleum and chemical plants; Ex d IIC T4 Gb where hydrogen or acetylene is present. The VFD is normally installed in a safe area; please give the drive brand, cable length and speed range in your enquiry.
Frequently asked questions
Can a standard flameproof motor run on a VFD? Why choose the
A standard flameproof motor is cooled by its own shaft fan, so airflow drops at low speed and temperature rises, with a risk of overheating in long low-frequency operation. The YBBP has an independent axial-flow fan that keeps cooling at rated torque even at 5 Hz, which makes it the better choice for continuous variable-speed duty.
What is the speed range of the
Constant torque from (3)5 to 50 Hz and constant power at 50–100 / 50–60 Hz; rated frequency 50 Hz.
